In March, PrimeBMD made a donation through the Australian & New Zealand Social Association (ANZA) to a local charity selected by ANZA – Operation Smile. Together with other business and individual donations, over P2 million was raised for the charity.
Operation Smile is a medical charity that has provided hundreds of thousands of free surgeries for children and young adults in developing countries who are born with cleft lip, cleft palate or other facial deformities. Since 1982, Operation Smile has developed expertise in mobilizing volunteer medical teams to conduct surgical missions in resource-poor environments while adhering to the highest standards of care and safety. Operation Smile provides access to safe, well-timed surgeries by partnering with hospitals, governments and ministries of health, training local medical personnel, and donating much-needed supplies and equipment to surgical sites.
The medical missions here in the Philippines have provided much needed care to tens of thousands of patients nationwide. Since 1982, they have consistently deployed such missions to over 70 different cities and municipalities – each with the goal of reaching the most marginalized patients.
The PrimeBMD family began their support for Operation Smile in November 2017 when Mick Slocombe’s wife Daisy volunteered at the weeklong mission in Davao. PrimeBMD and individuals made financial contribution in March and currently Daisy and Jeff Gallus’ wife Shelley are volunteering at the Bacolod mission where around 150 children will receive the surgery at no cost. Attached is a photo of Daisy and a very cute pre op patient in Bacolod. Next month there is a mission in Cavite which Mick and Daisy will attend and represent PrimeBMD.
BMD has a strong history of supporting the communities in which we operate and PrimeBMD looks forward to this continuing in the Philippines.
